St. Cletus Pastoral Team

Fr. James Benz, Pastor
Born in 1948, Fr. Jim Benz was ordained a priest on May 18, 1974, at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis by Cardinal John Carberry. He is a native of South St. Louis County and is the oldest of seven children. He has a Masters in Divinity from Kenrick Seminary. As a transitional deacon, he served at the Cathedral Basilica (1973 to 1974). After ordination to the priesthood, Fr. Benz served as an Associate Pastor at Little Flower Parish in Richmond Heights (1974 to 1979), at Assumption Parish in O’Fallon (1979 to 1985), at St. Luke’s Parish in Richmond Heights (1985 to 1990), and at St. Angela Merici Parish in Florissant (1990 to 1992). He was then assigned once again to Little Flower Parish, this time as Pastor (1992 to 2004). He was appointed as Pastor of St. Cletus on July 14, 2004. He enjoys photography, playing bridge, travelling, various sports, and meeting new people. He is also a most avid reader of the comic strips in the Post-Dispatch!

Fr. Terry J. Borgerding, Associate Pastor

Fr. Terry joined St. Cletus in 2008. He grew up in Ballwin, Missouri alongside his older brother and younger sister. He attended St. Joseph School in Manchester, St. John Vianney High School in Kirkwood, Cardinal Glennon College, and Kenrick Seminary. He was ordained in 1977 at the Cathedral Basilica in St. Louis. Since then, he has worked at parishes in North County, South County, Jefferson County, High Ridge, and Perry County. His parents, who have been married since 1946, now live in Augusta. His sister and brother-in-law, who also live in Augusta, have two children who are now young adults. His brother and sister-in-law live in the Wright City area. They have a grown son and daughter, each of whom are married and have three children. Fr. Terry is an avid sports fan who enjoys playing volleyball, hockey and slow pitch softball. He also participates in summer theater with the Fr. Bill Scheid Players (known as the “Priest Play”), which raises money for the Diocese and the CYC.

Frank J. Olmsted, Permanent Deacon
Frank holds a bachelor degree in Theology and Latin from
Benedictine College, a Master of Arts in Dogmatic Theology from St. Louis University and a Master of Religious Education from St. Meinrad School of Theology. Frank was ordained a deacon in June 1999 by Archbishop Justin Rigali. Frank has been Pastoral Director and theology teacher at DeSmet Jesuit High School since 1984 and a theology instructor for Paul VI Institute since 1985. He has been a researcher and writer for seven books of baseball biography and history.

Mark McCarthy, Permanent Deacon
Mark was born and raised in the St. Louis area. He attended St. Louis Preparatory Seminary, graduated from McBride High School and received his Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Mark was ordained a deacon by Archbishop Rigali in 2003. He has been a member of St. Cletus parish since 1970 and among his many activities served on parish councils, finance commission, liturgy commission and coached youth soccer. Mark also serves on Archdiocesan boards fpr the Office of the Permanent Diaconate.  Mark and his wife Liz have three children.  His hobies are fishing and water sking.

Ken Potzman, Deacon

Ken and his wife, Barb are native St. Louisans and new to St.Cletus Parish. Ken graduated from McBride High school and Washington University. He was ordained in the first deaconate class in the Archdiocese by Cardinal John Carberry. Ken is a full time staff chaplain and the Director of Pastoral Services at St. John's Mercy Medical Center. He is Board Certified by the National Association of Catholic Chaplains in both general healthcare and mental healthcare. Ken and Barb have a daughter and two wonderful grandchildren who are also members of St.Cletus Parish. His hobbies include fishing, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.

 

Mary Olmsted, Coordinator of Parish School of Religion

Mary holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy and Religious Studies from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas and a Master’s Degree in Religious Education from St. Meinrad School of Theology in Indiana.  Having served in the field of religious education for over thirty years, Mary has worked with PSR programs as well as adult education.  She has taught in Catholic elementary and high schools, and has worked extensively in both adult and youth retreat programs.  In addition to working at St. Cletus, Mary is on the staff of the Marianist Retreat and Conference Center in Eureka, Missouri as a member of the youth retreat team.   She and her husband, Frank, have been members of St. Cletus Parish for over twenty five years and have two adult children, Abby and Justin, who attended St. Cletus School; their granddaughter is currently a student at St. Cletus.  Mary’s interests include sewing, art and travel with her husband to various places in the United States, especially Michigan and Indiana.

Rosann Doherty, Principal
Rosann became the principal of
St. Cletus Elementary School in 1997. Prior to this, she had served as an elementary school teacher in the Archdiocese of St. Louis and the Lindbergh School District for 11 years. Rosann is a native of St. Louis, and is the youngest of five children. Rosann has a Masters of Administration and a Bachelor Degree in Elementary and Early Childhood education. She enjoys spending time with her nieces and nephews, reading, golf, traveling, and walking her Bichons.

Carrie Wolf, Music Director
Before Carrie Wolf joined the staff of St. Cletus as the Director of Music in September 2002, she was a youth minister at another parish for 5 years. She grew up in St. Louis being involved with band, theater, dance, and playing various instruments. She has a Bachelor of Science in Education-Instrumental Music from Missouri State where she was very involved in the Catholic Campus ministry. She teaches piano and voice lessons, plays weddings, and has recorded CDs with various groups. She loves to be involved with Community Theater by music directing, choreographing, as well as being onstage. She has recently been part of the music ministry for the larger diocesan youth events such as Steubenville, Christpower, and Inspiration.

Cindy Clegg, Parish Secretary
Cindy has served as the parish secretary for St. Cletus since February 2000. Prior to joining the St. Cletus staff she served as Secretary at St. Frances Cabrini Parish in Jennings for 10 years. Cindy has 3 children (Julie, Adam and Brian) and enjoys doing outdoor activities, such as gardening or going to the park for power walks. She also enjoys learning new computer programs.

Bill Matula, Business Manager
Bill joined the parish in August of 2002. He holds a bachelor degree in Business Administration from the University of Missouri in Columbia. Prior to joining the St. Cletus staff he served as the Business Manager for Kenrick-Glennon Seminary for over 10 years. Bill and his wife Katie have 2 daughters, Sarah and Ashley. In his spare time, he enjoys renovating an 1882 historical home.
