Room at the Inn
Mission Statement: Through the Room at the Inn ministry, parishioners of St. Cletus hope to stay directly involved with the homeless in a meaningful and manageable way.
While we no longer host overnight in the parish hall we want to help homeless women and families through the Bridgeton day site. With Fr. Benz’s approval we have made several commitments. Our volunteers will provide and deliver dinner for approximately 20 clients on the 4th Wednesday of January, April, July and October. On occasion we will bring treats for sharing. We’ve been told how much a cake or special dessert is appreciated, and hope to provide them for special occasions or holidays. We will take up a collection once year for everyday needs as well as “wish list” items. This can be in cooperation with the Peace and Justice Stop collection or on our own. We have worked with students in the day school at Christmas time. We passed on the ages and names of children and they bought presents and made cards. This is something I hope continues. We work with the Stitches for Life ministry delivering blankets, pillow cases, bibs, tote bags they have made for residents. They have asked for suggestions from the clients and staff of other useful items. Some of our parishioners can choose volunteer opportunities at the day site. These include innkeepers, reading buddies, craft activities organizers, and involvement in the “Move in Day” program. |
